Being a fan on items of age, pedigree-of-build and timeless style, I absolutely love breathing new life into an item of furniture, an antigue, a sculpture, a lamp - you name it - if it's got age and or pedigree, I will give it a new lease of life. The key to getting this right is sympathy for the item - not too much, nor too little - just the right amount of restoration.
And then... there's the fact that an item of furntiure can be a beautiful canvas for my artwork. It's a piece of art but very functional.
Using traditional french polish techniques, paints, waxes and a touch of imagination, I enjoy breathing new life into old furniture. You just can't buy the quality of craftmanship with a modern off-the-shelf item.
Furniture is also a canvas! I create mural designs on pieces of furniture which makes them one-off art pieces.
The allen key and flat pack is something that I can't get excited about! Dovetailed and mitered joints and solid wood - these are the marks of quality and the signatures of longevity. There's nothing like french polish to bring out the natural beauty and grain of the wood and saving a piece of furniture from the the clutches of 'shabby-chic'; saving it from landfill or the fire gives me a sense of heroism and helps me to sleep at night!
Oak & Dean Desk Refurbishment (sold)
This barn find was definitely due a refurb. This Oak and Dean desk needed a replacement leather top and a great deal of work on the the wooden structure. It was a stunning outcome.

Ottoman Peacock Design (£350)
I've had this ottoman for years and it's been really useful. I thought that the peacock design would turn it into something beautiful and useful.

This beautifully-made cylinder chest of drawers with it's deep wooden hues looks great with a colourful painted design.

Chest of Drawers - Magpies (sold)
This particular chest of drawers is a part of a lounge mural. For more photographs of this mural and more details, see the murals page.
Sideboard - Floral Design (sold)
This sideboard is an exceptionally well-built piece of furniture of substantial quality. My mural painting on this piece was very popular and has taken pride of place in a customer's lounge in the nearby town of Bingham, Nottinghamshire.
Dressing Table - Floral Design (£550)
This is a gorgeous satin wood piece of bedroom furniture which, after clearing it of all it's thick, gloopy white paint, revealed it's natural beauty. I decided on a colourful, floral design, hand-painted as always!
Coffee Table, Mango Wood, Floral Design (sold)
A quality piece of solid, mango wood furntiture, sturdy and heavy-duty. I had added brass casters for ease of movement (ignore the protective blue tape - that comes off), brass handles and brass corners after having painted a glorious floral design on all four sides. A room centrepiece.
Smaller furnture pieces - a selection...
This gallery displays a number of smaller items that I've created recently, all of which are hand-painted, of course! Some of these are still available, so please get in contact if you're interested in owning any of these.
Ebony Garden Tallboy (£175)
This talboy cabinet is very substantial mango wood piece. I've gone for a one-colour mural on this one and I'm delighted with the result.

Parrot Tulpid Sideboard - (850)
Another substantial and high-quality piece of statement furniture. The beautiful warm wooden tones of the piece really suited the umber and copper colours of the mural design which is completely hand painted, freehand, so it's complete one-off (as all my pieces are).
Jentique Sideboard - Tulips Design (sold)
I absolutely adore this piece. The Jentique sideboard is a quality item, in a gorgeous solid oak and vaneer. Once I'd removed the previous paint job, I designed this ode to tulips, whose colours really complemented the oak tones.
